Max Meyer came from Schalke to Crystal Palace with so much promise.
After all, he had featured in the Champions League for Schalke during his time in Gelsenkirchen and had even been dubbed the German Messi. At his best, this is a player who can average over one shot, one key pass and one dribble per game, whilst he often averaged over 85% passing accuracy in the Bundesliga as well.
However, he has failed to light up Selhurst Park or the Premier League since his switch in 2018. In 29 matches last season in the top flight, he managed just one goal and three assists, whilst he has appeared only 13 times this time around as well.
Whilst he may not be performing to the required standard, or even being given the chance to do so, he is still costing the club £125,000 a week. All in all, it is a transfer that has not worked out as many will have hoped.

It seems that the Eagles are looking at new, attacking targets, one of whom is QPR man Eberechi Eze. The 21-year-old is having a fantastic season in the Championship, and should Palace be able to sign him, he may just be the player many expected Meyer to be.
In 37 matches so far in the second-tier, he has scored 12 goals and provided eight assists. His contribution, though, cannot just be restricted to that. He has been a vital component of QPR’s play going forward – he has managed 2.8 shots, 1.9 key passes and three dribbles per game, leading the way in all three areas.
He can also provide plenty of versatility too – he has played on the left-wing, on the right, as well as in attacking and central midfield this term. Eze has been one of the star players in the Championship this term – this is even more proof of that.
Currently valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, QPR wanted £20m for him at the start of the January transfer window. However, that price dropped as the month went on. It remains to be seen what kind of fee they look for in the summer, but it is definitely one for Palace to keep an eye on. Their move for Meyer may not have worked out – bringing in Eze, though, could rectify that.
Meanwhile, Palace need recruitment in one area to avoid imbalance.
